How to Get People to Read your Blog

It's always hard to start something new.
That's why newcomers are looking for advice of experienced bloggers (lets call them so).
One of the most frequently asked question is How to Get People to Read your Blog?
In this post I'll try to answer that question.

  • First of all you have to think of the problem that your blog will solve. Writing a blog just for writing it's also good, but in most cases it will never bring you good traffic. For instance my blog is designed to help people to develop successful blog, to teach how to promote your blog and monetize it at some point.

  • Determine the subject and your own blogging style and stick to it. Patchy blogs are not interesting to the readers if it's not a diary. Usually people looking for something specific, some solution or advice, something that they need. Blogging style is also very important, it brings unique taste to your blog. Obviously, if you trying to attract some serious audience then you should stick to respectable blogging style, it doesn't mean that you cannot bring some humor, you just have to feel the balance.

  • The world is changing rapidly and if you're an expert in some area today, tomorrow might be someone else already took your place. So always try to learn new things and to be in touch with different communities.

  • Do not expect a response immediately. The first time you have to exert much effort, not getting the desired response. This is the hardest period, when your readers does not know you and you have to be patient, continuing to follow the target.

  • When you're alone it's hard to reach the target, therefore I suggest to learn and gain some networking skills. I recommend for reading Keith Ferrazzi book "Never Eat Alone And Other Secrets to Success". At first, collect on your blog community of your friends, they will be your support at this stage. Later this community will expand. You also need to think of quality of your community. Remember what Euripides said: "Tell me who your friends are and I'll tell you who you are".

  • To write useful content is not enough, you also need to present it in a right way. Find people to whom your content will be interesting. Look for like-minded people on different resources, including social networks. Use the guest blogging and article marketing.

  • Prepare yourself for criticism that's coming your way. Inadequate perception of the criticism would only reduce your credibility and the number of your regular readers. Try to find common ground with your readers, with even the most malevolent, it will lead to success in the long run.

  • You need to take care of the reader. Reader wants to feel comfortable on your site. Every little thing like "captcha" to the comments or awkward text formatting, lots of advertising or saturation of the color scheme of the site may result in the loss of readers.

  • Be positive and optimistic! Hard working will be rewarded in the end!
